Before a foundation, a driveway, or a septic system can go in, the lot has to be cleared. Pope Construction & Excavation, Inc. clears lots and acreage across East Tennessee for homeowners, builders, and developers, and we do it with a large, efficient machine rather than a string of small ones. Land clearing is one of our core services and the work we focus on first.
Why Clearing Is Where We Start
Most of our projects begin with clearing the lot. Kyle Pope has cleared lots for years as part of turnkey contracts for general contractors, where the job runs from clearing the property through the foundation and beyond. Because clearing is the first step on nearly every job, we pay attention to how it sets up everything that follows: where the pad will sit, where water will drain, and how equipment will move around the site.
One Large Machine Instead of Several Small Ones
A lot of excavators clear with two or three smaller machines, which means more operators, more fuel, and more days on site. We invest in a large piece of equipment built for clearing. In Kyle's experience, one big machine can get a job done in a day or two that smaller equipment would take two or three days to finish, and that efficiency helps keep your project moving and your costs down.
What We Clear
- Wooded building lots for new homes and cabins
- Land for neighborhood and residential development
- Commercial parcels that need to be cleared before site work
- Hillside and sloped lots where access and erosion are concerns
- Land for septic systems, driveways, and utility corridors
Clearing on Hillsides and Rocky Ground
East Tennessee is not flat, and much of it is rocky. Kyle has spent years working on steep mountainsides, and our crew is comfortable on slopes where the ground is unforgiving. When clearing leads into digging, we can follow with excavation and site prep using the same crew and equipment, including hammer attachments for rock.
From Cleared Lot to Finished Foundation
Because we also handle site prep, foundations, utilities, and septic installation, you do not have to hand your lot off to a new contractor every time the next step begins. Builders and developers often work with us on turnkey scopes that run from clearing the lot through the foundation. Homeowners get the same benefit: one team that already knows your property.
What to Have Ready When You Call
- The address or parcel location, and which county it is in
- A rough idea of how much of the property needs to be cleared
- What you plan to build or use the cleared land for
- Your timeline, so we can plan around it
We will talk through the project and set up a time to look at the site.
